Wine is confusing and that’s the fun part.

I’m Kara Daly and I write the newsletter, the zine, and the Instagram content.

My work embraces the confusion, mystery, peculiar science, and shape-shifting truth that threads the history of wine. I believe it is here that we can speak most clearly about our beloved little potion, with an attitude of humility and an invitation to anyone with a question.

I’m a certified French Wine Scholar and I hold a Level 2 Award in Wines through the Wine & Spirits Education Trust. I was selected as a fellow for the Wine Writers’ Symposium in Napa. My writing has appeared in Vinepair, Wine Enthusiast, Charlotte Magazine, and Queen City Nerve. I’m the editor of the Wine Industry Insight newsletter.

As a copywriter, I work with importers, retailers, marketing agencies, and wineries. With a background in hospitality, I understand how the average consumer thinks about wine. I know what they really mean when they ask a complicated question. I write educational content that is consistent with the technical language of wine and serves to connect the dots between your audience’s curiosity and your product.

If you’re a scroll-through-your-workday kind of person, you can find me on Instagram working through what I’m learning, pairing wine with songs, and talking about which cheese shop I most recently cried in.

Some non-wine things about me: I’m also a poet, songwriter, karaoke queen, and I consider the dancefloor just another mineral I need to make sure I’m getting enough of to grow big and strong. I’m a feminist who wants you to know that trans women are women. I have a ten-year-old dog, River, and a two-year-old cat, Wednesday, who, for the year of 2024, I will be referring to as 10 and 2.
